We're often asked:

"How did you come up with the name The Sinfonian Tattler?"

A lot of what you'll read in each issue is grown out of many long discussions and debates. Yes, just like the ones you had back in college at the tail end of a Thursday night. But now, we've decided to do the unthinkable and put all that down on paper! We're not here to report on current chapter events, though there will be some of that. But even then, the coverage will be from an ALUMNI point of view.

The Tattler name is a historical one. Back at the end of the 1800's, about the time the Alpha chapter was plowing the first path, the American media was bursting with periodicals and rags that had Tattler in the name. Just little rinky-dink publications that would give the readers the meat of very specific topics and issues. It's in this vein (not the modern whistle blowing association) that we hope to tread.

So we're hoping that after perusing each issue of The Sinfonian Tattler you will feel confidant that you have the scoop" and that your outlook on the landscape of music education programs will be vastly improved. And who knows, you might even be motivated to get involved somewhere and "do a brother's part."

Submission Guidelines

So, you think you got what it takes to type away for the Tattler? Bring it meat! But before you write your whole life story (as thrilling as it may be) here are some pointers for your piece:

A. Just Pitch It
We don't care what writing awards you have collecting dust on your mantel. We do care about what you know and what you can share. So try pitching us an article idea that you think is quintessentially Tattler-esque. If you "get it," then we'll ask for more and send you specs on submitting your piece. So before you write it all out, let us know what you have rattling around in your head.

B. Give It to Us Straight, No Charts
A lot of people and schools are doing research into music education and arts programs. These are interesting, and certainly can be used as ammo for the war against the various "music program haters" out there. But we plan to keep this kind of stuff to a bare minimum. If you see a neat article about some new research and want to share it, try and pick one aspect of it and give it an alumni slant. We're not here to lobby Congress. We're here to take a look at music education through an alumni Sinfonian's perspective.

C. Don't Do It...
We'll try to keep the venting to a minimum. We're trying to become a strong and noble voice for information and positive change in music education. So don't send us pieces on a specific school somewhere pooh-poohing on something. Unless you have lots of similar cases like it to support a trend or some other news worthy event.
Keep your political opinions to yourself please.
